U16FL: Tones caught cold by Ballivor

April 22, 2015

Caolan Ward - Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones 2-3
Ballivor 2-11

Wolfe Tones showing a number of personnel and positional switches from their last outing kept in touch for much of the first half boosted by a good opening 10 minutes which saw them lead by 0-3 to 0-1, their scores coming from Daniel Farrell, Alan Lynam and Iarlaith O Kelly Lynch.

However they failed to score again until the 45th minute by which time Ballivor had added 1-7.

A Gearoid O Brien goal gave the Tones some hope at the end of the third quarter  but Ballivor responded by adding two further points. Caolán Ward for the Tones added a goal to reduce the lead to 4 points with 10 minutes remaining but when Ballivor matched that score with a goal of their own almost immediately the issue was settled. Whereas Tones had competed well  for possession throughout the game they were unable to convert that possession into scores and Ballivor were deserving winners on the night.

The half time score was 1-4 to 0-3 but Ballivor were much better in the second half and added 4 points without reply in the 3rd quarter. A spirited Tones team worked hard to get back in to the game thereafter but couldn't ultimately close the gap.
