Asia captain Joe Melia with his parents Maura and Oliie along with GAA President Aogan O'Fearghail at the World Cup games.

Joe Melia from Moylagh was congratulated at Monday's Co Committee meeting on captaining Asia to win the football competition at the GAA World Games in Abu Dhabi recently.

Joe's father, club delegate Ollie, travelled to the event.

Another well-known Meath GAA person, Leinster Council representative, Brian Carberry, also made the long journey and was impressed by the games. The St Vincent's clubman said was very emotional to see so many young people from Ireland involved in the games, adding that it is sad that such people were forced to leave their own country to seek employment.

Next year's World Games will be held in Ireland.

Best wishes were sent out to Richard Harrahill of the Dunsany club, chairman of the county Scor committee, for a recovery from illness.
