U16 FL: St Michaels open with a win

April 01, 2015

Cory McGivern gains possession for St Michaels against Bective/Dunsany.

St. Michaels 3-14, Bective / Dunsany 2-8.

St. Michaels opened their U-16 Division 4 league campaign in impressive fashion thanks to a strong second half display in Bective last evening. Credit must go to both sets of players who tried their best to make a contest of this match as a strong and bitterly cold cross wind and heavy downpours made playing conditions very difficult.

Patrick Tobin was the star of the show as he notched up 3 goals and finished with a personal tally of 3-7 for the evening. Both sides traded 2 points apiece in the opening quarter with Tobin and Cian Sheridan getting on the scoreboard for the visitors. Bective / Dunsany got their noses in front on 17 minutes but two minutes later Tobin got the first of his hat-trick to go back in the lead, three minutes later he bagged goal no 2 to leave 5 points between the sides. Ciarán O'Reilly added a further point for St. Michaels, however Bective / Dunsany finished the half strongly with 1-1 to trail by just two points at the interval 2-3 to 1-4.

A goal just 30 seconds into the second half put the home side into a one point lead but they failed to keep the momentum going and allowed St. Michaels to regain control and register 1-7 without reply. Bective / Dunsany enjoyed a seven minute spell of dominance in which they popped over 4 points to reduce the margin to 5 points however they failed to raise another flag for the remainder of the match as Jimmy McGivern 0-2, Patrick Tobin 0-1 and Ciarán O'Reilly 0-1 completed the scoring for St. Michaels.

Together with the scorers, others to impress for St. Michaels were Harry Dunne, Ewan Moran, Scott Doyle, Cory McGivern, Ben Reilly and Alex Farrell.
