ROUND 3 ROUND UP

Le Cheile Educate Together NS 0-11 V Duleek Boys NS 3- 12 (15)

Round 3 of the Boyne Cars/Opel sponsored Cooney Cup threw up some great matches.   Host club Duleek/Bellewstown saw the opening game of Round 3 played between Le Cheile Educate Together NS and  Duleek Boys NS.  This was a great game throughout with both teams going in at the break level on a score of Le Cheile 0-7 V Duleek Boys NS 2-5 ( 7). The opening half saw some great scoring from both sides with brothers Dylan and Oisin Lynch to the fore for Le Cheile and Robert Duff to the fore scoring wise for Duleek Boys NS.   The 2nd half saw Le Cheile go two points clear thanks to great points from Oisin Lynch and Stefan Bors.  However in a very close game scores from Glen Egers (2) and Sean Murray (2) saw Duleek Boys NS wrestle control of the match to help their side win out in the end by 4 points .   Referee - Graham Reilly

Realt Na Mara Boys NS 0-10 V St Marys PPS 2- 8 (10)

In Game 2 of Round 3, this match saw the school boys from Realt Na Mara in Donacarney take on St Marys PPS from Bryanstown, Drogheda in Piltown.  This was easily one of the best matches of the Cooney Cup and was enthralling stuff from start to finish.   In a pulsating opening half it was tic for tac scoring to the break with a  great opening point from Luke Hanan being matched by a brilliant score from Cian Flynn for Realt Na Mara.  Godfrey Ehichoya then put the Donacarney boys in front with another great score before Joe Comiskey replied for St Marys PPS.   A long range score from Sean O'Donoghue then put the Donacarney boys back in the lead before a great solo effort from Liam Stafford tied the game back up once more.  Two further scores from Realt Nam Mara, the pick of which was a great long range effort from Cian Flynn was quickly   matched with two more great scores from Dean Almond and Ryan Connolly for St Marys to level up the match at half time on a score of Realt Na Mara 0-5 St Marys 1-4 (5).

The pace of the game was relentless as the 2nd half started and St Marys PPS started very brightly racing into what looked like a very significant 4 point lead courtesy of scores from Joe Comiskey, Luke Hanan, Ryan Connolly and Jacob Kula.   However Realt Na Mara never gave in and there work rate was joy to watch. A brilliant turnover by Godfrey Ehichoya firstly saw him convert a great point to reduce the margin to 3, before another great turnover by the same player saw him release Sean O'Donoghue and he kicked a wonderful long range score to reduce the margin to two points.  The game was turning now and a great individual score from Cian Flynn reduced the margin to a single point before a close range score from Des O'Keefe saw him level up the match with  minutes to go.   St Marys were now under pressure but a great score after some great team play from Liam Stafford saw Ryan Connolly put Bryanstown boys back in front.  In what looked like the telling score, Realt Na Mara had other ideas and a spilled ball by St Marys saw Evan Morgan release Godfrey Ehichoya and he in turn slipped the ball to Sean O'Donoghue  out wide and the cousin of Kerry Star James O'Donoghue kicked another wonderful long range effort to tie up the game in what was  to be the final score of the game.  Both teams had opportunities to win  the game but in the end this pulsating game ended in a deserved draw for both teams. Referee - Eamon Barry

St Pats NS Stamullen 0-12 V Whitecross NS Julianstown 1-4 (5)

The final game of Round 3 saw this re-fixture played in St Pats Stamullen. St Pats are the favourites for this years Cooney Cup but this derby match was a close affair for long periods before the hosts stretch away late into the 2nd half.  The opening half closed with St Pats NS leading 0-5 to 0-2 in what was a close affair.  In the 2nd half scores from Conor Farrelly and Ciaran White saw Whitecross rally but St Pats responded in good fashion with scores of their own and strectched their 3 point half time lead out to 7 points at the final whistle.    This was a must win for St Pats and they now play Realt Na Mara in Round 4 who will offer a tougher examination of their Cooney Cup ambitions the next day.  Referee - Graham Reilly

In the Division 2 competition, the Corn Cois Farraige their was one games played in St Vincents Ardcath with the other game to be rescheduled to after the Easter Break.

Gaelscoil an Bhradain Feasa 0-12 V Bellewstown/Mount Hanover NS 0-18

Game 1 in Round 3 saw Gaelscoil an Bhradain Feasa take on Bellewstown/Mount Hanover NS.  The latter have been playing great football and are this years favourites for the Corn Cois Farraige.  In this game the Gaelscoil put it up to the favourites for long periods and indeed where only two points in arrears at the end of the first half.  Great scores from Oisin O'Mhurchu , Fiachra Mac an Aba and Liam O' hAolain kept their side in touch of Bellewstown/Mount Hanover, however scores from Alan Boden and Alan Leonard kept the irish speaking boys and girls at a two point deficit at the break. The 2nd half was much the same and the wind advantage against the Gaelscoil they struggled to close the gap and credit to Duleek/Bellewstown with great scores from Alan Leonard, Oisin Myland and Alan Boland saw then extend out their winning margin to 6 points in the end.  In Round 4 the Gaelscoil have a Bye whilst Bellewstown/Mount Hanover take the unbeaten St Marys NS Donore in what should be a very interesting match to see who probably will top this group. Referee - Graham Reilly
