Ratoath Report

Walterstown 2-14 Ratoath 2-10

Walterstown emerged deserving winners of this round 4 division 2 league clash played in wintry conditions in Sean Eiffe Park

The first half was very much even for long periods with points from Cian & Bobby O'Brien, Mark Daly & Bryan McMahon cancelled out by Walterstown. With 5 minutes to go in the half Ratoath notched the first goal of the game as Daly got the final touch after an excellent run and shot from McMahon. The latter tagged on another point to put the home side 4 points up at half time: 1-6 to 0-5.

The second half saw the away side sprint out of the blocks with the opening point followed by another 2 goals and 2 points without reply in a 10 minute spell that would be ultimately decide the game. Fergal Power's charges eventually got going again and points form Daly, McMahon and O'Brien reduced the arrears to 2 points with 15 points to go.

Walterstown hit back though and would tag on the next 6 scores to all but finish the contest. In fairness to Ratoath they fought to the end and had the consolation of an outstanding individual goal from Bobby O'Brien who drop kicked a shot to the net from fully 30 yards. A couple of goal chances were saved by the Walterstown goalie in the dying minutes but Ratoath can have no complaints as Walterstown were full value for their 4 point win.
