Ladies: Meath hit Louth for 10

March 30, 2015

The Meath Under 14 squad that defeated Louth.

Meath 10-04, Louth 3-00

In a frantic five minute spell in the opening half, Meath secured all three points in the third round of the Leinster U14 Championship against neighbours Louth. The game was a trickier and more competitive contest than the final score demonstrates, but it is a result that will give Meath plenty of confidence heading into a tricky away fixture to Longford next Saturday.

A 4-02 first half haul from Dunboyne's Emma Duggan as well as a brace of goals from Lauren Geraghty and one each from Aoife Lenehan and Leah Reilly gave Meath a commanding half time lead. One point of note was the effective finishing the Meath team exhibited. These goals were not a slight on the Louth keeper, who to be fair was kept busy, but the goals scored by the Royal girls were top drawer finishes - the final ball emphatically finished to the net. While the Royal forwards kept the scoreboard alive, it was in defence that Meath shone.

Half Time: Meath 8-02, Louth 2-00

The second half allowed Meath U14s manager Peter Byrne to give his whole panel a run with substitute Marie McCarthy finding the back of the net. Aoife Lenehan added to her first half goal with a classy finish to make it a perfect ten for the Royal girls. Duggan added to her first half haul with a super point from play while substitute Laura Furlong completed Meath's scoreboard with a terrific point. While Louth did grab a third goal, their only score of the second half, it was little more than consolation as Meath march into round four with defeat to Dublin in round one of the Championship their only loss to date.
