Feile Blitz LGFA
If you believe, they say, anything is possible you will have read here over the past weeks of the great exploits of the under 14 girls and how they have just come up short in their opening league games. They were fooling us, playing with our heads. Today, at the first Meath Feile for girls, our young ladies played in the Feile shield, looking to qualify for the semi-finals to be played in Dunganny. Let's put you out of your misery - they qualified.
But not any old way, they had four games and they won them all, topping their group in some style. In the past , in defeat they have done the Pats Jersey proud and today in glorious victory they showed us all yet again what a brilliant team they are. They played amazing football, doing everything we asked and much more besides. They were drawn in a very difficult group a long way from home in Boardsmill.
Our group opponents would be Slane, Boardsmill, Moylagh and finally Dee Rangers. We had 19 girls in the squad and over the course of the four games we used each and every one of them time and again as the blazing sun took its toll. Here is how it all went Match one: St Pats 4-5, Slane 1-6, Match two: St Pats 4-6, Boardsmill 1-2, Match three: St Pats 10-4, Moylagh 1-2, Match four: St Pats 2-4, Dee Rangers 1-2. To put these results in even more context, last year Moylagh beat many of these girls in a final but today we turned that result around and made the world right again. Happy to receive a message too from the great Olly Bowe, manager of Meath under age development squads who came to our club and trained the girls on Thursday before the Feile:
"Make sure your gang feel like superwomen superheroes this evening, tell them I am very proud of their performance today, although I am not surprised, they are a great bunch of girls and I wish them the very best in Dunganny".
The legends, otherwise known as St Pats under 14 girls: Megan O'Leary, Annie Brangan, Laura Brangan, Yasmine Walsh, Hannah Maloney, Laura Baxter, Clare Donnelly, Gwen O'Brien, Hannah Mannion, Leah Loughran, Ellen Grant, Fia Henry, Aoife Moss, Roisin McCausland, Holly Reilly, Mia Kenny, Kerri Nolan, Hannah Storey, Sarah McDonald. The following day in Dunganny, the girls played Dunsany in the semi-final looking for a place in the final were they would meet Walterstown or Moylagh. Pats girls gave a great performance running out winners against Dunsany by a score line of 4:06 to 0:04 .
So to the final where Walterstown having beaten Moylagh were up next for St.Pats & it was disappointment for the girls having come and done so well were defeated by a stronger side in Walterstown. Final score Walterstown 6:03 - St.Pats 1:02. We wish Walterstown well on their fine win but we will learn from this and come back stronger than before.
