Meath emerged victorious in this Division 2 League match played in glorious sunshine in Ratoath on Sunday afternoon. Meath started brightly with Jane Dolan opening her account with a well taken pointed free on three minutes.The home team continued to dominate the possession stakes,with Aoife Maguire scoring a hand-passed point after a well worked move.Jane Dolan added two more points,the latter in the sixteenth minute.Meath continued to have the majority of the possession but failed to score for the remainder of the half.
Cork from limited possession had a return of 2-2 with Jacinta Crowley scoring two pointed frees.Orla Cronin who wreaked havoc all afternoon scored two goals in the first period.Half-time score was 2-2 to 0-5 in favour of Cork.
Meath introduced Megan Thynne and Aoife Minogue for the second period and both made an immediate impact.The Kilmessan dynamo scored a great goal while Aoife Minogue took over free-taking duties,scoring three points,the most important of which was the fifty eight minute strike which she coolly slotted over to ensure a one point win for Meath.Cork were restricted to three pointed frees for the whole of the second half.Final score Meath 1-9 and Cork 2-5.
Special mention has to go to County Minors Aoife Minogue, Emma Coffey, Megan Thynne, Amy Gaffney, Nadine Doyle and Siobhan Whitty who all played a part in Meath's demolition of Kildare in the All-Ireland B Championship on Saturday.
Best for Meath today were Kristina Troy, Emma McGill, Aine Keogh and Jane Dolan.
