MFL1: Tones fall to Dunboyne

March 19, 2015

Thomas O'Reilly Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones 2-11
St Peter's Dunboyne 4-10

Dunboyne were rather flattered by the scoreline as this was a most exciting and close game which saw both teams enjoy periods of dominance and which was up for grabs with both teams level with just 5 minutes remaining.

Indeed at this stage the momentum seemed to be swinging Tones way as thanks to 2 Thomas O Reilly goals they had managed to draw level having trailed by 6 points. However a resilient Dunboyne side lifted the siege to add 1  03 in the dying minutes to a solitary point from the Tones to run out deserving winners. Wolfe Tones had started brightly with 2 points in the opening minutes from Eanna O Kelly Lynch and Thomas O Reilly before being rocked by a goal following a high ball in to the square which was flicked to the net. Dunboyne held the lead thereafter and led by 6 points at half time on a 2  06 to 0  06 score-line although Tones were unlucky with 2 goal chances as both Eanna O Kelly Lynch and Saran O Fionnagain hit the side netting during the first half.

Both teams had further goal chances early in the second half. The  Dunboyne keeper made a fine save from Saran O Fionnagain while Tones keeper Oisin Corrigan  kept his team in the game with a superb stop. Wolfe Tones were well served by Thomas O Reilly , Daniel O Neill, Padraic Diamond and Cian O Neill and Robert White until he had to retire with a head injury.
