UCD claimed the All Ireland Freshers Division 2 Football Championship title with a three point win over DCU at a cold and windy Belfield last night.

Nobber's Tony McEntee, who played despite having to wear a head bandage, captained the team to a 0-10 to 1-4 victory.

Bective's Cathal McConnell also played a starring role, kicking two crucial points.

Ronan Maguire (Oldcastle) was also part of the winning squad.

DCU led 1-2 to 0-4 at the break.

DCU were to be captained by Daire Kennedy. The Ballinabrackey star was unable to start and his place was taken by another Meath man, Stephen Monaghan (Navan O'Mahonys)

Captain McEntee heroically removed his headgear to collect the trophy from Ray O'Brien and the Meath man proceeded to open his acceptance speech with some Irish.
