Busy Weekend Ahead for Meath Ladies

February 24, 2015

Meath's Rebecca Goodwin makes a great block as Down keeper Danielle Byrne tries to clear during the 3rd round of the Ladies NFL at Ashbourne.

It may still only be February but it will be all shoulders to the wheel next weekend for Meath Ladies as all four county teams take to the field. On Saturday, the Minors will be hoping to emulate their success of two weeks ago against Wicklow when they take on Louth at home in Trim GAA, throw in 1pm. The Minors enjoyed a comfortable win in their opening round and will take on Louth in their only home game of the competition on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Meath face tough opposition in a double header in the opening round of the u14 and u16 Leinster Championships. Both sides will face Dublin in Ballyboden St. Enda's GFC at 1.30 and 3.00 respectively. Both teams lost to the Capital side in their respective Leinster Finals in 2014 and both will be hoping to go one better this year. Peter Byrne begins his second season in charge of the u14s while Phil Fay, from Navan O'Mahonys has been charged with the responsibility of the u16s. Both squads have been working hard and a result in Dublin would be well celebrated when they get back to Royal turf!

After their third round win against Down on Sunday, Meath Seniors have their final home game of the League when they take on Westmeath at 2.0. Meath manager, Diane O'Hora will be looking for the same display from the Meath girls next Sunday however Westmeath will offer a far stiffer challenge. Westmeath were defeated by Cavan last Sunday and will be going into the Meath game eager to make amends. Meath suffered a defeat to Westmeath in last year's league game, however with every game they have played thus far they have improved. Here's hoping that will continue next Sunday!

All in all an exceptionally busy weekend to look forward to!
