AFL4: Curraha impress against Paul's

February 16, 2015

Curraha's Ian McManus

Curraha 1-11
St Pauls 0-3

Curraha made it two wins from two in Division 4 after a gritty display against a tough St Pauls team. Although keeping the home team scoreless in the first half Curraha had to work hard for this victory and it started with a well worked score form Andrew Battersby inside the opening minutes. In a tough opening thirty minutes Curraha's work rate was top notch and when St Pauls were reduced to 14 men during the first half Curraha never let the work rate drop. Points from David Toner, Gavin Coyle and Danny Battersby along with a free from Niall Moriarty ensured Curraha would go in leading by five at half time.

St Pauls came out fighting in the second half and Anthony Moyles was instrumental in there spirited display but with the extra man Curraha were never going to lose the game and their defence was on form with Niall Murphy and Conor Joyce controlling things in the backs. In the opening fifteen minutes of the second half it was nip and tuck with Moyles kicking two points but points from Toner and Moriarty ensured Curraha their five point lead which was increased in the last quarter thanks to a well worked goal from substitute Ian McManus.  Sean O'Hanrahan was also through on goal in the latter stages but decided to take a point instead.

Best for Curraha were Joyce, Murphy and Phelim Dowling.
