The hurlers got the day off to a great start with that win over the students from St Pats Mater Dei. The hugh crowd estimated around 7500 began to file in at 1.30 and by throw in time it was clear that another ten minutes would be needed before the start. As soon as the delay was announced The Dubs made for the dressing rooms while Meath continued to warm up.
Dublin were the better team for the first 40 minutes and led by nine points at one stage. Enter Michael Newman and a quick goal and a point. Paddy O'Rourke landed his third score and all was square. Meath had two chances to take the lead but The Dubs switched on again to hit two late points and take the win.
