Burke up for dual role again

Meath dual star Mickey Burke

Dual star Mickey Burke wants to continue representing Meath in both codes.

While more and more dual players are opting to concentrate on one code, the Longwood clubman is hoping he won't have to decide between the two.

"I love playing the two. I love hurling and if I can give the guys a dig, I will," Burke told the Irish Daily Star.

"If I can't, I can't. It's as simple as that really. Football will be my first choice, but I think they (football manager Mick O'Dowd and his hurling counterpart Martin Ennis) are trying to sort something out.

"Maybe I'm lucky in that Aidan Walsh and the guys were playing a really, really high standard of hurling whereas - not trying to belittle the Christy Ring - maybe you can get away with it.

"It's not ideal. You want your touch to be good. I can imagine how tough it is for them lads playing at that level trying to mix the two.

"Maybe my situation will be cut short, maybe I'll just have to play football, but I'm going to let the lads talk. It's a bit annoying in a way. I won't be able to do it (play both codes) in 10 years' time."
