Rathmolyon and former Meath minor hurling star Jack Fagan played a leading role as Carlow IT defeated UCC to claim the Higher Education SHL title.

Chris Bolger bagged 2-3 as DJ Carey and Michael Dempsey teamed up to lead IT Carlow to victory over traditional giants UCC in yesterday's Higher Education SHL final at Fraher Field.

Cork star Conor Lehane and Kilkenny man Bolger traded goals in the early stages as UCC opened up a 1-7 to 1-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, a second goal by Bolger saw Carlow overturn the deficit to lead by 2-11 to 1-12 at half-time.

With recently-retired Kilkenny star Aidan Fogarty, Cha Dwyer, Stephen Meagher and Edward Prendergast to the fore, the Leinster outfit took control on the restart and never looked back after Meath's Jack Fagan's 37th minute major propelled them into an eight-point lead.
