St Pats celebrate with the Division 3 hurling title at Kilmessan.

St. Patricks 2-9
Boardsmill 1-10

St. Patricks made it through to another final this time in the Div3 league final where they faced their South Meath rivals in Boardsmill.

St. Pats who have already beaten their counterparts already this season would of fancied their chances going into this game. The match was played in Kilmessan with a noon throw in on a very wet morning which left the ground very mucky and soft underfoot. It was a tough first half with Boardsmill making the best of the chances on the day. St. Patricks working tirelessly at all times keeping themselves in the game with sheer grit and determination with first half points from Mark Scanlon ( 2 ) and Brian Calvey. Half time : St. Patricks 0.3 - Boardsmill 0.7

The second half opened with a clearer sky and the St. Patricks players with one focus in mind to take on the game immediately on the resumption a long rang puck from Diarmaid Quinn ended up in the back of the Boardsmill net - leaving only 1 point between the sides. In now entered a dog eat dog stage with points from both sides keeping matters equal, however with the introduction of Phil Harney for the injured Brian Farrelly the game Began to open up in favour of the east Meath side.

Harney knocked over 2 points, followed on 1 from Neil O' Flaherty and another from Diarmaid Quinn, another massive attack from Boardsmill yielded 2 points before another from Harney left it 3 to the good for the Pats. Massive defending at all times was the order of the day from J.P. Ryan, James Kenna, Shane Clarke, Gareth Mc Guinness and Michael Kennedy, while another attack at the other end saw Phil Harney rattle the back of the Boardsmill net Leaving the Pats 6 points up with the final whistle getting close.

However Boardsmill weren't finished yet and mounted another attack knocking over a point from a free before netting just at the final whistle.

It was with great excitement the Brian Smyth Cup for Div. 3 was presented to Brian Farrelly by the Hurling Board Chairman Dom Reilly and the Pats supporters who had travelled on the day were delighted to be present, and can now only look forward to the trip to Longford on Sunday next 16th Nov to play Wolfe Tones in the Leinster JHC Special semi Final.
