U 21 A FC: Trim top Tones in thriller

November 09, 2014

Fiachra Ward and Padraic Diamond (Wolfe Tones) put pressure on Trim's David Foley during the Meath U21 A football championship final at Pairc Tailteann.

Trim had the minimum to spare over Wolfe Tones in the Under 21 A football championship final at Pairc Tailteann. It took extra time to separate these two teams in what was one of the best games of football seen at headquarters this year.

Trim 3-19
Wolfe Tones 5-12

Trim held the advantage at the break 1-9 to 1-5. James Cullen got the winners goal while Fiachra Ward got his first of two majors. The opening 30 minutes produced two black cards.

Conor Sheppard and Fiachra Ward got two early goals for the Tones in the second half and just when it looked that the tide was swinging their way James Toher hit a quick 1-1 to give them a 3 point lead. But Tones hit back with their fourth goal through Padraic Diamond to level matters. The teams traded 3 points each to finish level 4-9 to 2-15 at the end of normal time.

Tones outscored Trim 1-2 to 1-1 in the first half of extra time but Trim kicked three second half points to Toines one to claim the title.
