Meath duo Brian Meade and Eoghan Harrington have played their last game for the county after their retirements were confirmed.

Mick O'Dowd held a squad meeting last week ahead of the new season and both players were absent having informed the manager of their decision not to rejoin the panel.

Rathkenny player Meade made his championship debut under Colm Coyle in 2008 and won a Leinster title in 2010.

He was chosen as the Meath Player of the Year in 2013 after being instrumental as the county ran Dublin close in the Leinster final. He suffered a cruciate ligament later that year which limited his involvement with the county this year.

As a result he missed the entire 2014 league campaign and was used sparingly during the run to Leinster final, before starting the qualifier loss the Armagh, which proved to be his last game for the county.

Harrington, who captained the county in games, filled a host of defensive positions after making his championship debut in 2007, claiming a Division 2 league title and Leinster medal during his time in a Meath jersey.

Injuries have also curtailed his appearances in recent years although he started the heavy Leinster final loss this summer. The Wolfe Tones man's last game for the county was as a substitute in the round 4 qualifier loss to Armagh.

The duo follow in the footsteps of Seamus Kenny, who retired after Meath exited the championship in August.
