BFL Div 6: Moynalty win first silverware at Pairc Tailteann

Moynalty finally collected their first ever piece of silverware in Pairc Tailteann with a 6 point win over Boardsmill in the B League Division 6 decider.

Moynalty went in at the break 1-9 to 0-7 ahead. Stephen Gibbons put Boardsmill ahead with the games open ing score. Half back Padraig O'Connor opened Moynalty's account. Ronan Lynch, Stepehn Blackburn, Christy Cahill  and Anthony Nevin added to this and by the 15th minute the 'Tidy Villagers' led 0-5 to 0-2. Barry Brennan sent over a brace for Boardsmill to narrow the gap. With seven minutes remaining full forward Nevin made a fine catch and rattled the Boardsmill net to put Moynalty 1-7 to 0-5 ahead. Both sides traded a pair of points as Ollie Murphy's men went in at the break five up.

Boardsmill dominated the early exchanges of the second half. Points from Gibbons and John Mitchell narrowed the gap. Between the 15 and 20th minute Moynalty put the game to bed. Blackburn pointed, substitute Michael Dorrigan goaled while Michael Lynch and Patrick Byrne also raised white flags to open up a 2-12 to 0-10 gap. Bertie McLoughlin got in for a Boardsmill goal in the closing stages.

After the game Francis Flynn Meath County Board Secretary presented the Ginnity Cup to Joey Curley. Moynalty last won this cup in 1987 when they were crowned Junior Football Champions.
