Simonstown's Cian Cullen with Evan Fitzgerald (Ballivor) during the Under 16 Division 3 summer league final at Pairc Tailteann.

Simonstown claimed the Meath Under 16 Division 3 Summer League title in dramatic fashion with a two point wind over Ballivor at a windy Pairc Tailteann last night.

Simonstown 3-10
Ballivor 2-11

Simonstown played with the elements in the first half but their opponents were more than a match for them. Jack Murray kicked the opening score of the game for the Town side. Ballivor responded with a brace from Brain Conneely and Aaron Byas. The lively Frankie Cullen put Simonstown back in front with the games first goal. With twenty minutes gone Ballivor trailed 1-5 to 0-5 but a well worked goal from half back Evan Fitzgerald tied up the game. Simonstown finished the half with a flourish. Mark Farrell, Jack Murray and Kyle McEvoy kicked points to sent the winners in a the break 1-8 to 1-5 ahead.

Cian Cullen extended the Simonstown lead early in the second half but between the 10th and 25th minute Ballivor took over. Stephen Murray narrowed the lead to a point with his teams second goal. Morgan Callaghan levelled the game and further points from Ciaran Dowling, Conneely, Byas (2) and Callaghan again had the boys in maroon 2-11 to 1-9 ahead. Aaron Geraghty got Simonstown going again with their first score in 15 minutes and this was quickly followed by a David Ahern goal. With time almost up substitute Conor Fitzpatrick found the Ballivor net with a looping shot and Simonstown were in front by two. Ballivor poured forward looking for a winning goal but time was not on their side. Simonstown held on to that two point cushion and were crowned champions.

After the game John Kavanagh Meath Minor Board Chairman and Pat O'Reilly (sponsor) presented the U16 Division 3 Summer Shield to Simonstown captain Aaron Geraghty.
