Club hurling team of the week

August 27, 2014

There was action from the Connacht SHL today.

The group stages are over. Reigning champions Kilmessan make the knockout stages and are joined by Kiltale, Trim, Longwood, Dunboyne and Kildalkey. The intermediate is also down to the last six. Are a great weekend of games we pick our best XV.

1 Emmet Dalton Blackhall Gaels. Some outstanding saves kept a well oiled Kiltale attack at bay for long periods in the game at Pairc Tailteann.

2 Anthony Donnelly Kiltale. Despite a big winning margin the Kiltale defence had a lot of work to do. Donnelly was on hand a number of times to clear and blot out potential Gaels scores.

3 Shane Brennan Kilmessan. Not for the first time to make this team. Rock solid a full back as Kilmessan advanced at the expense of Killyon in Trim.

4 Conor O'Shea Dunderry. Excellent display from the defender including a brilliant second half point in their five point win over Moylagh at Kildakey.

5 Sean McGee Trim. Trim's best player in their comfortable win. Cleared everything that Boardsmill threw his way.

6 Ger Foley Killyon. A suberb exhibition of defending despite exiting the championship after that defeat to Kilmessan at Lomans Park.

7 Enda Keogh Kildalkey. A real powerhouse at the heart of the ever improving Kildalkey as Rathmolyon were put away with ease in Navan.

8 Ger O'Neill Kilmessan. Three scores from the top drawer from the veteran and an overall fine display as the reigning champions advanced to the quarter final.

9 Maurice Keogh Kildalkey. Covered every inch of the Pairc Tailteann sod, defended and attack at every opportunity as Kildalkey advanced to the knock out stages.

10 Shane Whitty Blackhall Gaels. The best man on the pitch despite the heavy loss to Kiltale. Scored four fine points, half of his teams total.

11 Evan Sheridan Gaeil Colmcille. Outstanding around the middle sector as the Kellsmen brushed aside the challenge of unbeaten Ratoath to reach to knockout stages of the intermediate championship.

12 Feargal McCabe Kiltale. Ever improving, McCabe has established himself as a regular. Scored three points and was a constant threat to Blackhall Gaels.

13 Padraig Keogh Kildalkey. Its our first time to have 3 brothers on this team. What an addition for Kildalkey to have all three back. Padraig excelled in the free role aloted to him by manager Pat O'Hallloran.

14 James Toher Trim. Another to make this team a number of times. Started out in midfield ended up on the edge of the square. His goal from a free was unstoppable and five points in a row early in the second half put an end to the Boardsmill challenge.

15. Willie McGrath Moylagh. Eleven points last time out, the Moylagh man went a goal better against Dunderry at Kildalkey. His pointed sideline cut in the second half was well worth the entry fee.
