Trim 4-13
Boardsmill 1-10
Trim claimed top spot in Group A and a place in the semi final of the Meath senior hurling championship with this comfortable win over Boardsmill at a well appointed Kildalkey.
Boardsmill had an outside chance of qualifying, if they won and Navan O'Mahonys defeated Longwood over in Trim. Unfortunatly for Vinny Guy's charges neither happened.
Trim plaining against a strong breeze set up a platform for victory in the opening half. Niall Weir put Boardsmill ahead with the games opening point but between the 5th and 15th minute Trim rattled the Mill net three times. James Toher blasted home from a close in free. A few minutes later Neily Heffernan got in on the act with his trade mark goal, gaining possession and racing 30 yards before hammering the sliothar past Sean Dixon in the Boardsmill goal. Alan Douglas followed this up with the third and the town side were 3-1 to 0-2 ahead.
Boardsmill responded well and dominated the remainder of the half. Kyle Dixon pointed before Weir struck for their only goal. Thomas Leonard, Evan Dixon and Weir added points to close the gap to a point. Douglas and Toher raised white flags to settle Trim while Weir closed out the first half with his 3rd score. John Andrews men went in at the break 3-3 to 1-7 in front.
The news from Trim at half time was that O'Mahonys were holding their own and this should have been the perfect tonic for Boardsmill but their second half challenge never materialised. Jamie Hackett and Niall Weir traded points before Trim took over. Toher landed five points in a row and along with one from Heffernan the Town side led 3-10 to 1-9 after twenty minutes. Douglas and Toher added further scores before substitute Arnie McGee completed Boardsmills miserable afternoon with Trim's fourth goal.
