Drumree's Caoimhin King

Drumree 2-19
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-13

Drumree wrapped up the group stages of the Intermediate Hurling Championship with an impressive victory over Donaghmore/Ashbourne to cement their place in the Semi Final & continue their 100% winning record. Going into this match they were unbeaten & guaranteed a place in the knockout stages however they didn't allow complacency set in & went about their business very clinically.

They came out of the blocks flying with Shane Troy & David Reilly running riot in the half forward line scoring 6 points between them within the first 20 minutes. Donaghmore/Ashbourne stayed in touch throughout the first half thanks to the excellent free taking ability of their no. 12 who scored 11 of their 13 scores from place balls.

The full forward line was working well together with Brian Coughlan winning a lot of ball & laying it off to Josh Wall & Liam Carey. Carey was the man to raise the first green flag for Drumree after a storming run by David Reilly found its way to Carey on the corner of the square who pounced to drill the ball to the net & send the Drumree men into the dressing room with a 7 point lead.

As the teams emerged for the second half Drumree had made two changes, with Sean White & Duncan Geraghty both introduced. White wasted little time in getting back into the swing of thing & scored 3 second half points, the pick of them was an excellent point from 30 yards out along the side-line when under pressure.

Geraghty also did very well at wing back, coming onto a lot of breaking ball & finding a man each time. Paul Walsh, Keith Rooney & Gareth Rooney did a lot of unseen work at the back & ensured Donaghmore/Ashbourne were not going to get anything easy.

As the game ticked on more subs were introduced with the returning Caoimhin King coming back into the fray after a stint in Chicago. John Crimmins & Liam Shanley also got some game time, all will be eager to force their way onto the starting 15 for the Semi Final.
Shane Troy added two second half point to bring his total haul to 8 points for the day.

Drumree closed off an impressive victory with a textbook Liam Shanley goal who always seems to get into the right position at the right time. Brian Coughlan held off two men & laid off a clever hand pass to Shanley who was left unmarked just outside the box. He made no mistake with his finish taking the ball on the stick & smashing it past the oncoming Keeper.

A good overall performance with Shane Troy, David Reilly, Brian Coughlan & Sean White all excelling.
