August 19, 2014

Curraha's Gavin Coyle
Curraha 2-13
Clonard 2-05

Curraha rounded off the Division 5 B FL with a convincing win against Clonard.

Curraha travelled down Clonard more or less guaranteed a place in the final and although they tried to kick the game away with 11 wides in each half the result was never in doubt and they went in at the break with a three point advantage 2-04 to 2-01. Clonard got off to the perfect start with a goal inside the five minutes and eventually Curraha got off the mark thanks to a Gavin Coyle point. This was followed by a well worked goal from Brian Murphy and from this point Curraha were never to be reeled back in. a well taken point from David Dunne was followed by a peach of a goal from Aaron McDonnell who blasted the ball to the top of the net from 14 yards out. Clonard responded straight away with their second goal after a long ball was punched to the net by their centre forward. Donal McDermott then got his name on the scoreboard which was followed by a Dunne free.

Curraha were missing a few players but this didn't stop them from putting in a solid performance and the second half showed why they finished top of the group as they were solid at the back and finally looked like converting some scores. Murphy got a point from the throw in and it was all Curraha for the first ten minutes as Coyle got his second and wing back Daniel Doran stormed forward and kicked a superb point from distance. Clonard eventually got their second point of the game on 15 minutes but this was followed by three Coyle points along with one from the hard working John Mangan. Clonard then got two points of their own after Brendan Doyle had to go off injured leaving Curraha down to 14 men for the remainder of the game but those two points were cancelled out by Coyle and Dunne.

Man of the Match Paraic O'Hanrahan gave an exhibition of defending and attacking from wing back while Murphy and Gary Dowling were solid around the middle.
