JFC: Clonard stun O'Mahony's to take quarter-final spot

Clonard produced a stunning performance to secure a place in a quarter-final in JFC against a strong O'Mahonys side.

Ken Darby got Clonard off to a lively start with two well taken points while Adrian Boland,Bernard Reilly,and David Rowley added with points to trail 0-5 to 0-8 at the break.

Clonard clicked into gear after the resumption with points from Ken Darby,Eoghan Connolly,Jonny Fitzsimons,David Rowley,Bernard Reilly while county player Adam Flanagan extended the lead with a fine point to secure a hard earned victory.

Clonard got the better of O'Mahonys on Saturday evening in Kildalkey to leave O'Mahonys out of the JFC 'A' competition.

Clonard had a better start going three points to one up in the opening stages of the game. However, O'Mahonys dominated the scorebard for the remainder of the half with accuracy from Robbie Keelegan (0-2), Cormac Reilly (0-1) and Conor Murphy (0-2) from placed balls proving important in getting scores on the board. Keeleghan and Murphy also added scores from play to leave O'Mahonys 0-7 to 0-3 up before Clonard re-found their composure and got two points back. Murphy, again from a free, had the last say of the first half to leave the town side 0-8 to 0-5 up at the break.

Clonard came out the stronger again and pulled two points back immediately to leave just a single point between the sides. A volley by Cormac McEntaggart raised a further white flag. Further points from Keeleghan (0-2) and Murphy (0-1) were counteracted by Clonard points to leave O'Mahonys 0-12 to 0-9 up as the clock ticked away. However, O'Mahonys were not to score again as Clonard dominated the final quarter with five unanswered points. This could have been more but for one passage of play which saw Clonard goal shots blocked and a fifth reverberate off the cross bar. This left the final score at 0-14 to 0-12 to Clonard, who finished third in group A of the JFC.
