Camogie: Easy for Kilmessan

July 31, 2014
Meath senior camogie championship (4th Round) played @ Kilmessan Tues 29th July

Half time score: Kilmessan 4-7 Kiltale 3-0
Full time score: Kilmessan 9-19 Kiltale 3-3

Kiltale were out to cause a major shock in the 4th round of the senior championship when they hit the back of the defending champions net three times in the opening 20 mins however Kilmessan responded well with four goals of their own, one from each of their full forward line and the fourth from the evergreen Ann Gorman. Fia O'Brien was the danger woman at corner forward for Kiltale and her pace posed serious questions for the Kilmessan defence in the opening half. After the break the Kilmessan defence tightened up and restricted Kiltale to just 3 points, the pick of these a point from play from county star Cheyenne O'Brien, older sister of Fia. With their defence more secure, Kilmessan's forwards expressed themselves more and linked up some fine passages of play to accrue a second half tally of 5-12. All six of the Kilmessan forwards managed to score from play along with their two midfielders but the highlight of the scoring was two points from wing back Maeve O'Leary who despite having a tough job in marking Cheyenne O'Brien, managed to get on the scoreboard herself with a point in each half. Others to shine for Kilmessan were midfielders Frances Lynch and Stephanie Horan and full forward Katie Ni Choileain who top scored with 3-4.
Kiltale were best served by the aforementioned O'Brien sisters along with the O'Donoghue sisters, Louise & Ciara.
