U16 SL: No luck for St Michaels in balmy Boardsmill.

July 23, 2014

St Michael's Rory O'Driscoll with Paddy Coyne of Clonard Boardsmill.
St. Michaels 2-6, Clonard / Boardsmill 3-9.

The Clonard / Boardsmill combination were comfortable winners over St. Michaels in this U-16 Summer league match in balmy Boardsmill last evening.

The home side got off to flier and were 1-5 ahead before Caolan McConnell opened the visitors account with a free on 17minutes. Some good work from Conor Smith put Rory O'Driscoll through for St. Michaels opening goal on 22 minutes and just a minute later O'Driscoll was again on hand to receive a pass from the in-rushing Stephen Dolan and send it to the back of the net for his sides second major and to leave just a point between the sides at 2-1 to 1-5 in favour of the home side. But that was as good as it got for St. Michaels as they failed to score again for the remainder of the half while Clonard / Boardsmill tagged on a further 1-1 to lead by 2-6 to 2-1 at the break.

St. Michaels enjoyed more possession in the opening quarter of the second half but they couldn't convert it into scores managing just 3 points from Ewan Moran, Rory O'Driscoll and a pointed free from Caolan McConnell to reduce the deficit to 3 points on 46 minutes, 2-4 to 2-7. Clonard / Boardsmill were struggling at this stage as they failed to open their second half account until the 20 minute of the half but by this stage the St. Michaels fight-back had been dealt a severe blow when Caolan McConnell received his marching orders on 48 minutes with a second yellow, now with the numerical advantage the home side regained control adding 1-2 in a five minute spell to seal the victory as a point apiece from Ciaran O'Reilly and Shane McCormack completed the St. Michaels tally as the match entered injury time.
