B FL Div 4: Michaels too strong for Clanns

July 22, 2014

Mathew Halpin gains possession for St Michaels against Clann Na nGael.
St. Michaels 2-17, Clann na nGael 0-7.

A much sharper St. Michaels side proved far too strong for Clan na nGael in this deferred reserve league match played in Carlanstown last evening. On a beautiful evening for football the home side put on an exhibition of football all over the pitch and by the 20th minute they had the game sewn up leading 2-6 to 0-2.

Ronan Cassidy opened the scoring with a point in the first minute and Christopher Drew fired home his sides opening goal a minute later after splitting the Clan na nGael defence wide open. Three minutes later Dáithí Reilly registered goal number two after linking up with Ronan Cassidy. Clan na nGael got the opportunity to cancel out that goal on 15 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but their effort was brilliantly saved by Paddy Flood in the home goals. St. Michaels continued to press on the visitors defence and the scores began to flow with Johnny Reilly 0-4, Mickey Dunne 0-2 and one apiece from Ben Farrell, Michael Murphy and Matthew Halpin all contributing to some brilliant point scoring resulting in St. Michaels taking a 2-10 to 0-5 lead by half time.

The pattern of play continued into the second half with St. Michaels in full control as Ben Tobin 0-3, Ronan Cassidy 0-2, Johnny Reilly and Lee Morris 0-1 each added to the St. Michaels tally as the visitors registered just two points.
Matthew Halpin, Dáithí Reilly, Christopher Drew, Darren O'Connell, Ronan Cassidy Ben Tobin and Johnny Reilly all excelled for the winners.
