FL Div 2: St. Michaels brush past hosts

Nine players got on the score board for St. Michaels as they brushed past the hosts in sunny conditions in Cortown on Saturday evening last.

In a slow burning opening half St. Michaels led by 0-3 to 0-1 after 18 minutes play thanks to points from Peter O'Connell, Kevin Cassidy and Ronan Lynch (free). The turning point came in the 20th minute when Oran Meehan turned provider after some good work between himself and Kevin Cassidy and he fed the in-rushing J.B. O'Reilly who lashed it to the back of the Cortown net to leave it 1-3 to 0-1. Ronan Lynch sent over his second point of the night from a free on 27 minutes, Cortown who had an awful night in front of the posts only managed their second point on 28 minutes. Kevin Cassidy popped over his second point a minute later to leave it 1-5 to 0-2 at the break.

The opening 15 minutes of the second half was all St. Michaels as they outscored Cortown by 0-7 to 0-3 with David Lynch, Ronan Cassidy and Felim O'Reilly firing over two points apiece and a point apiece from Oran Meehan and Ronan Lynch. Cortown made the breakthrough for their goal on 56 minutes but further points from Kevin Cassidy 0-1, substitute Johnny Reilly 0-2 and Peter O'Connell 0-1 completed the rout. Jamie Reilly, Matthew Halpin, Sam Briody, Philip Rogers and Gary Dolan were others to impress for St. Michaels.
