AFL3: Syddan caught by Hill push

July 16, 2014

Syddan's Daire Rowe
MEATH HILL 3-12
SYDDAN 1-15

Meath Hill outscored their opponents four points on one in the final six minutes to claim the spoils in this North Meath derby on Tuesday evening.

After conceding two early goals Syddan were always playing catch-up and while they did gain parity on a number of occasions they never led at any stage throughout.

The visitors recovered from the concession of those early goals to be level 0-8 to 2-2 approaching half-time. However Meath Hill finished the half stronger with three unanswered points to lead 2-5 to 0-8 at the break.

Points from Luke Halpenny and Cormac and Daire Rowe had the sides level again within four minutes of the restart.

Ciaran Farrelly made a fine stop from a penalty on 36 minutes but from the resultant '45 Syddan squandered possession to allow Meath Hill in for their third goal.

The hosts eventually went four points clear before Daire Rowe made no mistake from a spot kick to bring it back to the minimum.

Rowe levelled the match for the final time when taking his tally to 1-9 in the 50th minute.

Meath Hill produced the stronger finish and shot two points either side of Syddan's last score from Mark Fedigan.
