Blackhall Gaels 0-14
Walterstown 0-7

Blackhall Gaels earned themselves two very valuable points on Tuesday night when they beat Walterstown in round 10 of the football league. The win maintains the Gaels position at the top of Division 2 ahead of the weekends fixture with St.Colmcilles.

A seven point haul from Blackhall captain Tadhg Brosnan helped the Gaels to an eventual seven point margin after the hour.

Aided by a favorable breeze the Gaels began brightly scoring into the farm end of Batterstown. Brosnan helped himself to four first half points through a mixture of frees and open play. While Blackhalls forwards worked well at one end their backs were working well at the other. Carty and Stenson were assured at the back shepherded by McElligott who when needed broke and carried the ball at pace. Dan O'Neill was causing problems as his deep runs provided the link to the inside forwards. Tom Delanys efforts were rewarded with two fine points while Nestor and Carty added a point each to give the team in yellow and blue a slender three point advantage at half time with the Gaels ahead 8-5.

The second half was a different affair as the Gaels now playing into that breeze were forced to carry a lot more of the ball which slowed the game down. Walterstown will be disappointed to only register two points in the second period but the Gaels defending was disciplined and well organised. Brosnan led the way for Blackhall with three more points. While Nestor added a further point to his tally along with one apiece for Ciaran Giblin and substitute John J Kelly. The Kilcloon/Batterstown men ended up worthy winners by seven points in the end. Blackhall Gaels 0-14 Walterstown 0-7

The win comes at the right time for the Gaels who will take great heart from the performance as the run in to the end of the league gathers pace.
