U14 FL: 13 goals in Donore as St Marys beat St Michaels

April 14, 2014

Ciaran Monaghan St Michaels
St. Michaels 4-6
St. Marys 9-18.

St. Michaels made the long trip to Donore this evening for this semi-final clash with St. Marys, unfortunately they had to return home disappointed after a very one sided contest.

St. Marys were a much more physically stronger team than St. Michaels and they controlled matters straight from the throw-in restricting our lads to only two first half points which came from the boot of Cian Sheridan, one from a free and one from play. The home side could do nothing wrong and had some great passages of play which resulted in them being ahead 3-3 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter. This score would have been much higher but for some great saves by Jason O'Donnell in the St. Michaels goals. St. Marys finished out the half with a further 2-3 to lead 5-6 to 0-2 at the interval.

By the end of the third quarter the home side had stretched their lead to 8-10 to 2-4 after Ciaran O'Reilly 1-1 and Ciaran Monaghan 1-0 got on the St. Michaels score sheet. St. Michaels tried hard in the remaining fifteen minutes but playing 13 a-side on a full size pitch was beginning to take its toll on a lot of legs, however Ciaran Monaghan struck 2-1 together with a point apiece from Patrick Tobin and Cian Sheridan to put some respectability on the scoreboard after what was a hard nights work, but 4-6 has won a lot of games and there is no shame in being beaten by a better team, ye all put in a great effort, it just wasn't to be tonight.
