Christy Ring Cup Semi Final 2013
Meath take on Down in the Christy Ring Cup Semi Final in St Loman's Park, Trim at 3.00 on Saturday next. Referee: Shane Hourigan of Limerick.
The Royals took the direct route to the semi-final with a home win (1-20 to 2-10) over Armagh in the opening round and by virtue of an extra time victory (0-22 to 1-16) over Kildare in Newbridge in Round 2 qualified for a home semi final. Down on the other hand took the long route to this stage of the competition after losing the opening round to Kerry by 3-16 to 2-17 in Newry, they then went into the losers group and scored a 9 point victory over Armagh in Crossmaglen on the same afternoon that Meath took on Kildare and last Saturday they scored three second half goals to overcome Derry, again in Newry by 3-7 to 0-9.
Manager Cillian Farrell and his selector Nick Fitzgerald report no injury worries and are confident that their charges can qualify for the county's first ever National Final at this level.
But management are realistic enough to realise that in order to win on Saturday everyone who takes to the field will have to give 100% and with this in mind all associated with the team would be delighted if a large crowd turned up at the well-appointed Trim venue to support what is generally a youthful team.
