AFL3: O'Brien points Ratoath to victory
May 18, 2013

Ratoath's Bobby O'Brien
Ratoath 1-13
Syddan 0-15
A virtuoso display of point taking from Bobby O'Brien in the second half proved the difference between the two teams on a cool dry evening in Sean Eiffe Park.
Without the 2 prolific MacMahon brothers for the game, Ratoath nevertheless had a good spread of scorers early on including the two wing backs,Paddy Quinn and Emmet Boyle- the latter slotting over an excellent point. Syddan though kept on touch and were 6-3 down after 15 minutes.
There followed a period of dominance for the visitors for the remainder of the half with 4 unanswered points. Ratoath supporters were left increasingly frustrated by numerous chances put wide by the home side and with 9 in total there would be no prizes for guessing what Eamonn Barry would look to address at half time.
Syddan ,7 points to 6 ahead at the break, were caught cold with a sucker punch goal from O'Brien within 30 seconds of the restart after good work from Stephen O'Brien. They regained their composure and were only a point behind 1-9 to 0-11 15 minutes into the second half.
Bobby O'Brien continued to keep the scoreboard ticking with three scores of his own and with 10 minutes to go Ratoath looked favourites to hold out. Syddan were resilient though and and did most of the scoring in those remaining minutes leaving the bare minimum between the sides when the referee blew his whistle for full time.
Others to impress for Ratoath were Stephen O'Brien,Conor Rooney,Brian Power,Andrew Smith and Emmet Boyle.
