Meath hurlers unhappy with Middletown facilities

Meath Hurling Board Chairman Francis Lynch
After congratulating the players and management team on reaching the Allianz HL Division 2B final, Meath hurling chairman Francis Lynch strongly criticised the facilities at Middletown for last Sunday's game against Armagh at Monday night's County Committee meeting,

Lynch described the facilities "as an absolute disgrace," remarking, "it's a sad day when subs have to sit on their hurleys along the sideline." The Kiltale clubman said that spectators had to lean across a rusty fence and there was no scoreboard, no PA and no press facilities.

Lynch said that what happened was not good enough and wondered why the game could not have been played at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh city or in Keady. He proposed that a letter of complaint be sent to Croke Park.

After chairman Barney Allen suggesting there was little point in complaining to GAA headquarters, Brendan Cummins said the CCC in Croke Park should be made aware of Meath's dissatisfaction of the facilities.

The hurling chairman expressed dissatisfaction at the decision to fix the final against Kildare for Parnell Park rather than Tullamore on Sunday, April 15.

Lynch congratulated Boyne CS on their recent Leinster colleges hurling success and praised Peter Durnin for his coaching in the schools.

There were also congratulations for Ratoath College from Allen on their Leinster vocational schools triumph.
