There was lots of sympathy for Tipperary's Bill Maher in 'The Sunday Game' studio following his sending-off against Mayo.

Pundits Pat Spillane and Joe Brolly don't often see eye to eye but there were both singing from the same hymn sheet when it came to the Tipperary red card.

Referee David Coldrick issued the half-back with his marching orders following an off-the-ball 'incident' towards the end of the match.

"This is a shoulder," said Spillane looking back on footage from behind the Hill 16 goals. "It's a wee push," added Brolly.

Spillane continued: "This is no different that Eoghan O'Gara's sending-off in the last match.

"If this is the way football is going we may as well give up and go into modern pentathlon or something like that because that's not a red card."

The Premier County also lost the services of Robbie Kiely to a black card early on and, afterwards, manager Liam Kearns revealed he didn't see either incident.
