Maughan set for inter-county return?

John Maughan is a surprise late entry into the race to take over from Niall Heffernan as manager of the Mayo Under 21 footballers.
The Western People reports that the former senior team manager has been nominated by the County Board's Executive Committee for the vacancy.
It's a surprise development as Mike Solan and Anthony McGarry had been announced as candidates prior to last Wednesday night's County Committee meeting.
Maughan, who guided Mayo to four Connacht SFC titles and three All-Ireland SFC final appearances, will now enter an interview process along with Solan and McGarry.
The Crossmolina clubman has also managed Roscommon, Clare and Fermanagh in the past.
