Mayo forward Cillian O'Connor believes that the intensity at training has helped immensely for the All-Ireland SFC.
Despite having been untested in the Connacht final, Mayo hit the ground running against Donegal and produced a solid performance to advance to the semi-final and a meeting with Dublin.
O'Connor stressed to the Western People that the competition for places in the side means that the intensity in training games is equal and sometimes better than a championship match.
"We rely heavily on the intensity in training and matches between ourselves. The competition, especially in the last two to three weeks, has been massive from the six or seven lads outside the 26," said O'Connor.
"Some tough calls had to be made because a lot of lads have been absolutely flying. Training was brilliant coming into the game. So I suppose you don't know until you get out and play but we had a good few sessions and we felt good coming into it."
