It was a huge day in the senior football championship with both the Ulster and Connacht finals down for decision.

For the third consecutive season, holders Donegal and Monaghan faced off in the Ulster SFC final at Clones (2pm). Rory Gallagher's men were bidding for their fourth Anglo-Celt Cup success inside five seasons, while Malachy O'Rourke's charges sought their second in three years.

Meanwhile, western standard bearers Mayo were chasing their fifth successive Connacht SFC crown. Opposition in the decider at Dr Hyde Park was provided by Sligo, who were looking to cause a major upset (4pm).
