Coen knows there's plenty to work on

Mayo interim hurling manager JP Coen admits that they have plenty to work on before the start of the NHL.

Coen's position for the remainder of the year is unclear, but should be confirmed this week and if he is to be given the job on a permanent basis, he knows the areas that they need to work on.

GMIT inflicted a defeat on the Mayo men last Sunday and Coen told the Western People that a big improvement is needed ahead of the league.

"We go out to win every game and that didn't happen against GMIT, but we're only three weeks into this process and there are some positives to take from it," said Coen.

"When you look at the way Kenny Feeney played, he started at wing-forward and linked up from midfield with Brian Hunt who started at centre half forward and ended up at wing-back.

"Austin Lyons did a great man-marking job on one of their best players and for a lad who usually plays at midfield to be lining out corner back and wing back shows that lads will do whatever is asked of them for this Mayo team."
