Horan is Mayo Person of the Year

James Horan has been named the Mayo Person of the Year.

The Ballintubber man will be presented with the presitigious Virginia Gallagher Memorial Award at the Mayo Association gala banquet on Saturday, February 7 at Dublin's Ballsbridge Hotel.

During his four years as Mayo manager, Horan delivered four successive Connacht SFC titles and also led the Westerners to an All-Ireland final appearances in 2012 and '13. Despite failing to win the Sam Maguire, he succeeded in transforming Mayo into one of the top football teams in the country. He stepped down as manager following last August's heartbreaking All-Ireland semi-final replay loss to Kerry.

Horan also won two All Star awards during a distinguished playing career.
