The GAA have put forward a proposal to counties which would see the All-Ireland SHC final played on August 28th in 2016.

In an effort to streamline fixtures into an annual calendar, the association's top brass has released a proposed schedule for next year and one of the headline changes is the switching of the Liam McCarthy decider from September to August.

In another move from tradition, the football final will be fixed for the second Sunday in September while they are recommending that the All-Ireland Club Championship finals be played over a single "Club Weekend" each December.

The GAA said 'no final decisions will be taken on this process until counties have had an opportunity to examine and discuss the contents of the document'.

If approved, the calendar would be initially adopted on a two-year basis.
