Yesterday was a day to remember for one of Mayo's best-known GAA families.

Ballyhaunis were crowned county intermediate football champions following a thrilling 0-12 to 0-11 victory over Hollymount/Carramore - who were managed by new joint-Mayo boss Noel Connelly - and it was a proud occasion for the Prentys, with long-serving Connacht Council secretary John acting as a selector and his son Niall scoring 0-7 (0-3 from frees) in a man of the match display.

Ballyhaunis, who had county star Keith Higgins anchoring their defence, were captained by Liam Lyons, who commutes back and forth from his Dubai base for matches.

"I come home on a Thursday, usually fly home on a Sunday, but I won't be flying back today," the victorious skipper told the Western People.

Now that's what you call dedication!
