Mayo's Andy Moran

Mayo captain Andy Moran is confident that the county board will choose the right person to replace James Horan.

The Westerners must begin the search to find a new manager after Horan stepped down in the wake of the All-Ireland senior football championship semi final defeat to Kerry.

Moran told the Western People that if the county board wants the opinion of some of the more experienced players in the squad, then they just have to ask.

"We think they will make the right decision," said Moran. "At the end of the day they appointed James and made a very good appointment there, so we'd hope they'd do the same again.

"They know that if they want the players' opinion there are some very, very good players who can sit down with them and who could say we need this, this and this.

"The players have a very good relationship with the county board which can't always have been said to be fair, but at the minute it's a very good relationship and if they need us they know where we are."
