All five Garth Brooks gigs cancelled

Garth Brooks returns to Croke Park
Aiken Promotions have announced that all five of Garth Brooks' Croke Park concerts have been cancelled.

The country and western superstar was originally set to rock GAA headquarters by launching his comeback tour in a record-breaking run of concerts over successive nights this month but it has been confirmed that the gigs are definitely not going to happen.

Two of the five planned shows got the chop last week when Dublin City Council granted permission for just three of them after residents living in the vicinity of the stadium objected to the gigs. The US singer threatened that it was going to be five gigs or none at all ... it will be none at all.

Peter Aiken, owner of Aiken Promotions, flew to the States today to meet Brooks and try convince him to play the remaining three concerts. But the talks proved fruitless. Mediator Kieran Mulvey had previously warned that the entertainer no longer felt welcome in Ireland.

A statement from Aiken Promotions reads as follows: "It is with great regret that Aiken Promotions today announce that the five concert 'Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event' at Croke Park has been cancelled. No concerts will take place.

"The ticket return process will be outlined tomorrow. Aiken Promotions have exhausted all avenues regarding the staging of this event.

"We are very disappointed for the 400,000 fans who purchased tickets for 'The Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event'."

Ticketmaster added: "We are working on a plan to make the cancellation process as simple and convenient as possible for customers.

"However the scale of this operation is unprecedented in the Irish entertainment industry and therefore we would ask customers to continue to be patient while we finalise our plan. Full details of the plan will be published tomorrow."
