Mayo manager James Horan admits that they have plenty to work on ahead of the Connacht SFC.

New York are the opposition in the opening round of the provincial campaign and although Mayo will be huge favourites to come through that one, Horan is adamant that they have plenty to do beforehand.

Last weekend, the Westerners were knocked out of the NFL Division 1 semi finals after they were beaten by a Derry side that played three quarters of the game with 14-men.

And Horan revealed to the Western People that Mayo were unsure of how to use the extra man and this was one area they would be working on, along with many others.

"When we didn't need them sometimes we had three or four guys behind the ball so they're not influencing the play but our work-rate was a little bit off and that means our preparation was a little bit off and that's where I have to take some responsibility so I'll be working at that," said Horan.

"Work rate in a game is made up of a thousand little things before a game so we'll have to trawl through that and make sure we get back to what we're sure we can do."
