A fitting farewell for a Wee County legend

The remains of Jimmy McDonnell arrive at Darver Church for his funeral mass

There was a huge turnout at St. Michael's Church, Darver on Monday morning to bid farewell to 1957 All-Ireland winning hero Jimmy McDonnell.

The Louth legend - who passed away last Saturday at the age of 90 - famously came out of retirement to help the Wee County to a 1-9 to 1-7 Sam Maguire Cup final victory over Cork sixty years ago.

The large attendance was testimony to the high esteem in which he was held and his coffin was flanked by his All-Ireland winning team-mates along with members of St Joseph's GAA club.
