SENIOR FOOTBALLERS

Our senior footballers secured their senior status for next year following an excellent hard fought win over Fr Casey's on Sunday evening.

With the rain pouring down in Croagh this Irish Wire County Senior football championship game had it all.

It was evident looking at the group table that a big 60plus minutes were needed and nothing but a victory would suffice for the lads.

Rathkeale on one point and ourselves on two so the progress of the Adare Rathkeale game was being watched closely throughout the evening.

As it panned out Adare overcame Rathkeale in spite of some twitter glitches to the contrary.

Our lads were not to know so set out to seize control of the game from the start.

That is exactly what materialised with Peter Casey goal inside 10 mins had us 6 points to the good by end of the first quarter.

Credit to Fr Casey's who fought back bravely and by half time we led 1-8 to 1-5.

Into the second half and with small knowledge of results elsewhere we kept the scoreboard rolling along as the half progressed.

Fr Casey's made it a grandstand finish reducing the deficit to a solitary point in the closing stages .

However a fine catch from David Dempsey from a great ball by Dylan Cronin to dispatchbto the net for the all important second goal.

Anthony Kavanagh rounded off the scored with a point to leave the final score of Na Piarsaigh 2-12 Fr Casey's 1-10.

Great credit to the lads who fought gallantly and showed greatest and determination when most needed.

Big thanks to Pat McHugh and his backroom team for preparing the team this year and also to the extended panel of players for their dedication this year.
