James Carragher Mattock Rangers

MATTOCK RANGERS 3-11

ST MOCHTAS 1-9

Mattock Rangers booked their place in the last four of the Louth Intermediate Championship thanks to an eight point victory over St Mochtas at Tallanstown on Saturday evening.

Although the Collon men were deserving winners in the end, the dividing margin was slightly flattering as the Mochtas were very much in contention right up to the closing stages.

Mattock went into the game as favourites to advance and they started in impressive form with James Caraher opening the scoring with a goal before adding two points.

However, the Louth Village men hit back well and responded with a point from Eamon O'Neill before Stephen McCooey slotted the ball to the back of the net to cut the gap to one. A late score from Aaron O'Brien had the Collon side 1-5 to 1-3 ahead at half time.

Mattock extended the gap to six points early in the second half thanks to a goal and point from O'Brien to put his side in a comfortable position. However, the Mochtas refused to give up and points from Shane McMahon, Andrew English and Declan Byrne helped reduce the gap to two points entering the closing stages.

Mattock regained their composure and a goal from David Reid put an end to the Mochtas revival as his side added late points to complete the win.
