Cuchulainn Gaels club notes

July 25, 2016

Our men's team played out an exciting game in the last championship group stage match, running St.Kevins, one of the stronger teams in the championship and potential contenders, right to the last kick of a game that almost proved the upset of the tournament. A fantastic second half performance saw the Gaels lead by one point with ten minutes to go until a late Kevin's goal and point put the oposition two ahead. Some fine points by Rammie Phillips and a great score by Cian McDonald were highlights of the game. Other exceptional performers included Micheal McCabe, John Morgan and man-of-the-match Brendan O'Hagan, who hit some fantastic kickouts to earn the Gaels much needed possession and pulled off two top-class saves. A tough defeat to stomach, especially after some head-scratchingly incompetent refereeing, but definitely one of our best performances of the year, with our younger players certainty showing signs of some big things to come. Best of luck to St . Kevin's and Sean McDermott's in the next round.

Our Gaelic for Girls program kicked off last Tuesday at 6.30pm and immediately looked to be a worthwhile initiative. We had 16 girls take to the field between the ages of 7-14. There were 8 coaches/helpers also present. The session ran for an hour and we were delighted with the confidence the girls showed with the ball. Next session this Tuesday night at 6.30pm.
